BIRKIN Style

The just out of bed (but actually I look really bloody hot) look.

Sheer tights/top, baggyish Tee, stripes, barely there shorts and bed hair of course. It always helps if you are born with Birkin/Moss legs but heels normally do the trick. A new line of clothes, The BOD (http://thebodclothing.blogspot.com/), channels this look perfectly. Here is one of the models from their line, on sale on ebay at http://stores.ebay.co.uk/thebod-clothing.

Earth's salute to the sun

There is definitely something in the air which is bringing fashion back to primal earth colours. Vibrant sun yellows, juicy oranges, and deep sea blues were seen on many of the shows this Fall, a contrast to the Goth/Swan like affair occurring simultaneously, as depicted previously.

Scottish Tartans

 EDINBURGH- Tonya, My flat, 25/03/2011

There is something quite satisfying about wearing Tartan when in Scotland.

Swans everywhere

Rodarte, the label behind Oscar winning Black Swan, clearly seemed to be the theme of the moment. From Alexander Mcqueen's much awaited show, a mix of lace/leather/fur embroidered dresses were on full swing, with the models on full trance mode. Balmain jazzed things up with silk shirts and shimmering skirts, whiles A.F. Vanderforst created the illusion of a swan like figure with powerful make-up and carefully tailored black dresses.

BURLESQUE

So I went to what can only be called a burlesque show last night with a bunch of friends, as a change to our daily Edinburgh outings. Sadly Dita Von Teese was not there, although she is worth mentioning here for making burlesque a well known dance-performance mixing art with sexual oumph, rather then its strip-club like stereotypeness.

Dita Von Teese performs here at a burlesque strip tease at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, CA

Although burlesque has been around for nearly a century, with the likes of  Josephine Baker, in her famous "Banana Dance" costume, only recently has the style and sultriness been channeled into more everyday wear,
From the movie to the song,  Mouling Rouge, a hit back in PGL when i was 12 (Parents get Lost camp for kids who's parents don't know what to do with them what during the 4 month holidays), portrayed idols Pink and Cristina strutting their stuff

Albeit indirectly, Sonia ( I realise that in this blog I tend to mention Sonia and Vivi in every other post), channels some aspects of this burlesque appeal in her A/W 2011 show, a twist between burlesque-cabaret and anything tartan (last term in Edinburgh so better embrace it), as seen below:

Notice the female body is actually visible for once, with carefully chosen pink/red colour clashes, surrounded by lace, cotton fur, leather, metal belts, and perfectly sleaked back hair. LIKE

MARK FAST A/W 2011

This is just GREAT. Mark Fast may not be loved by everyone but he definetly makes knitting look sensational.

Flamingo

I went to the Edinburgh Vintage fair in Leith this weekend, people selling vintage at high prices. Even jumpers can jump from 2 pounds bought in a charity shop to 20 in a fair, what with the right layout and the right type of clients to buy it. I am that client, i bought it.
Actually, worse. i bought a flamenco dress, because, of course, this is soo practical in my everyday biology laboratory work attire. NOTE: we are mid-march and it snowed this morning, the dress does not really allow for even tights or a jumper, not even a 20 pound vintage jumper.
And a D&C lime green scarf, D&C not D&G. This scarf was a must to go with the lime green checked skirt, all just because i decided to watch clueless just before going. Although i doubt clueless girls had to worry about walking back at 1 am in the hail/snow with ladders in their extra small tights which they stole from their flatmate due to lack of laundry, not realizing their skirt had risen up due to the nylon underlining sticking to the tights,  revealing a little too much to the men standing outside the pubic triangle (aka strip club corner), fuck. At least those girls are getting paid.

There is something quite attractive in the spanish flamencoesque dresses though, the dress itself makes you want to jump up and dance, what with all the ruffles. Its also quite a powerful look, vibrant red lips, khalo-esque big black eyebrows, slick back hair, and ofcourse the red dress.
